| YOUTH & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT |
Joint efforts aimed at youth and community development are needed to prepare young people to meet the challenges of adolescence, adulthood, and civic responsibility. Through structured, progressive, fun activities, and personal growth experiences our skilled leaders help young people obtain social, emotional, ethical, physical, and cognitive competencies and a greater understanding of the need for civic pride and responsibility.
The Younger Americans Act establishes, for the first time, a national youth policy. It identifies five core needs that all young people ages 10 to 19 should have, and that there needs to be a coordinated effort, with adequate resources, to ensure that all communities are able to provide programs that help fulfill these needs. The five core needs are: * Ongoing relationships with caring adults; * Safe places with structured activities; * Access to services that promote healthy life-styles, including those designed to improve physical and mental health; * Opportunities to acquire marketable skills and competencies; and * Opportunities for community service and civic participation.
The ATDF is determined to provide programs and services to help address these 5 Core Needs and subsequent needs as they arrive.
